Meet Tamara Syverson
Tamara Syverson never expected to build her career in radiation oncology. Originally a microbiology major, she was encouraged to observe a radiation oncology department before choosing her next direction. The moment she stepped into the clinic—with its lasers, precision, and deep connection to patient care—she knew she had found her place.
She began as a radiation therapist and loved caring for patients, but after more than a decade in the clinic, she felt ready for a broader impact. When she discovered that RCCS focused on the process improvement, workflow optimization, and documentation excellence she was naturally drawn to, her career took a new path.
Since then, Tamara’s leadership has steadily expanded. Today, as Vice President of RCCS, she oversees the entire company, guiding teams across business units, specialties, and service lines. Her clinical roots continue to shape her leadership philosophy: every decision must support the people doing the work and the patients ultimately receiving the care.
Her deep consulting experience remains central to how she leads. Tamara understands how documentation, charge capture, workflows, and staffing intersect with real-world patient care because she and her team have lived it. Under her leadership, RCCS continues to provide comprehensive support that goes far beyond coding... from operational process refinement and EMR optimization to competency development, audits, strategic planning, and accreditation guidance.
A defining hallmark of Tamara’s leadership is partnership. She knows consultants can be viewed as “the enemy,” so she built a culture that prioritizes solutions, collaboration, and empathy. She encourages teams to walk alongside clients, not over them. Her strength lies in helping oncology departments feel heard, supported, and equipped—not judged.
Tamara also continues to elevate the voice of oncology within health systems. Executives often listen differently when an external expert reinforces what departments have said for months. As a result, RCCS frequently helps departments secure needed resources, improve workflows, and advocate effectively for staff and patients.
In addition to leading RCCS, Tamara remains an influential educator and industry contributor. She presents nationally on oncology coding, reimbursement, and workflow efficiency, and she authors the RCCS Medical Oncology Navigator®. She also serves on the AAMD Foundation Board, supporting growth and education within the dosimetry profession.
Outside of work, Tamara brings the same creativity and curiosity to her personal passions. During an earlier period of burnout, she enrolled in culinary school, earned a degree in baking and pastry arts, worked in bakeries, and taught classes. A devoted DIY enthusiast, she loves home improvement projects, camping through the western U.S., and planning her upcoming trip to Scandinavia to explore her family’s heritage.
From the clinic to the consulting field to the executive suite, Tamara’s journey reflects dedication, clarity of purpose, and a deep commitment to the healthcare professionals she leads.
