Katie Sipes | BS, RT(T)(ARRT), RCC | Manager, Oncology eConsulting
Meet Katie Sipes
Katie Sipes, Manager of Oncology eConsulting at RCCS, brings nearly 20 years of oncology experience and eight years with RCCS to her role. She went straight from high school into radiation therapy school, inspired by her nurse mom and a desire to work in healthcare without becoming a nurse herself. Early in her career, she helped open a new cancer center, developing policies, procedures, and stepping briefly into management... experience that still shapes how she supports clinics today.
Katie first encountered RCCS when Tamara Syverson provided charge review support to one of her centers. Instead of just handing therapists a cheat sheet, their manager shared Tamara’s detailed feedback, giving Katie a deeper understanding of charge capture, documentation, and compliance. That education stuck with her and eventually led her to join RCCS.
She was hired into RCCS to focus on charge review and consulting, taking responsibility for specific clients and ensuring compliant, well-documented charge capture. As the company grew, her role evolved into management. Today, Katie oversees a team of eConsultants, serves as a sounding board for complex client questions, and performs quality assurance on team accuracy. She also steps in for PRN charge capture when clients have staffing gaps, providing both coverage and light auditing. “I like change,” she says, and the constant stream of new rules, EMR nuances, and workflow challenges means no two days look exactly the same.
What keeps her here is the mix of flexibility, learning, and impact. As a mom, she values being able to flex her schedule around bus stops, practices, and family time. Professionally, she’s driven by the educational side of the work: helping clients understand how services, codes, and documentation fit together so they bill correctly, stay compliant, and get appropriately reimbursed... while patients avoid confusing or unnecessary charges at an already stressful time.
Katie is a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). Outside of work, you’ll most likely find her camping and hiking with her family, reading whenever she can, or cheering from the sidelines at her kids’ soccer, baseball, and basketball games. Her colleagues describe her as flexible, decisive, and always willing to jump in where she’s needed... qualities that make her a trusted leader for both her team and her clients.
