Hannah Trela, BS, R.T.(T)(ARRT), joined RCCS in May 2020 and now serves as a Manager of Oncology eConsulting. Her career in healthcare began early, inspired by her mother, a nurse. “I loved science and knew I wanted to be in healthcare, but bedside nursing wasn’t for me,” Hannah recalls. After her grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, she found her passion in radiation oncology. She went on to study radiation therapy in Wisconsin, graduating in 2013, and quickly landed her dream job at a proton center in Florida.
Hannah's early career gave her a unique blend of experiences, allowing her to work with both proton and conventional therapy as well as gain an understanding of simulation utilizing CT and MRI. Despite enjoying her time there, Hannah found herself pulled in many directions across the department, limiting the patient relationships she cherished. “I loved working with patients and helping them through the radiation process, but my role became too cross-functional, and I missed that connection,” she says.
Seeking change, Hannah transitioned into charge capture in 2019 at a hospital that happened to be an RCCS client. It was here that she first met Trena Taylor and became familiar with RCCS. When she moved to Charleston to be with her now husband, Trena reached out to discuss a remote opportunity at RCCS during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a full-circle moment, Hannah now provides PRN coverage for the same hospital she once worked for.
Since joining RCCS, Hannah has thrived in her role, enjoying the dynamic nature of her work. “I’m not a creature of habit. I love learning new things, researching, and the fact that no two days are the same,” she explains. Her responsibilities include supporting consultants on her team, aiding in new client onboarding, performing daily charge reviews as needed, providing billing and compliance recommendations, and helping navigate complex scenarios in radiation oncology. “I’m there to answer questions or research the best solutions, and if I don’t know the answer, I will find it,” she adds.
As a manager, Hannah values collaboration within her team and across departments. “We all have different backgrounds and expertise, and that allows us to support each other and our clients in unique ways,” she says. She also enjoys working closely with clients, helping them navigate the complexities of compliance, reimbursement, and new technology implementation to improve patient care.
Outside of work, Hannah and her husband love to travel. Her favorite trips as of late have been to places like Puerto Rico, Iceland, and Italy. Closer to home, they enjoy biking at Hilton Head, golfing, and spending time by the water. “We try to golf a few times a month, and we love being outdoors,” she shares.
Hannah Trela’s dedication to continuous learning, client support, and patient advocacy all contribute to her being an extremely valuable member of the RCCS team. Her ability to navigate complex scenarios while maintaining a focus on patient-centered care highlights her expertise and passion for her work.
